Gombe State University, established in 2004, is a public institution of higher learning situated in Gombe, the capital city of Gombe State, located in northeastern Nigeria. As a part of Nigeria's continued efforts to expand access to tertiary education, Gombe State University was founded to provide high-quality education, research, and community service to students from Gombe and beyond.
##The Establishment of Gombe State University
The establishment of Gombe State University was a result of the educational needs in the northeastern region of Nigeria. Before the university's founding, the region had a relatively limited number of higher education institutions, and there was a significant demand for more options for advanced studies, especially for students from Gombe State. In 2000, the then governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar H. S. The university has a central library located in a two-story building on the main campus, which houses various offices, departments, and units for administrative, technical, and other staff members. The library boasts an extensive collection of over 52,000 volumes and 12,000 periodical titles, along with a diverse selection of online and offline journals. It is named after Professor Abdullahi Mahdi, the first Vice Chancellor of the university.
In addition to the central library, the university operates branch libraries that are affiliated with the various faculties and departments.
