##History
Sule Lamido University (SLU), located in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, Nigeria, stands as a testament to the state's commitment to advancing higher education. Established on May 13, 2013, by the Jigawa State Government, the university was initially named Jigawa State University. It received its license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on July 17, 2013, marking its position as the 39th state-owned university and the 129th in the Nigerian University System. In December 2014, the institution was renamed Sule Lamido University in honor of the then-governor, Sule Lamido. 

##Early Beginning
The journey to SLU's establishment began on June 22, 2010, when the State Executive Council formed a nine-member Technical Committee led by Prof. Munzali Jibril, a former Executive Secretary of the NUC. This committee submitted its report on December 31, 2010, which included an academic brief and a draft university law. By February 2013, the State Executive Council approved the creation of the university, envisioning it as an ICT-driven and entrepreneurial institution. The academic blueprint outlined a phased development plan, aiming for the university to encompass three schools, twenty faculties, fifty-nine academic departments, and 261 programs across various levels by 2032. 

To bring this vision to fruition, a ten-member University Implementation Committee was established in May 2013, chaired by Prof. Haruna Wakili, the then Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. This committee functioned as both the university's management and governing council until formal structures were instituted. With the appointment of principal officers in December 2013, the university commenced academic activities in September 2014, initially offering programs in Science, Education, and Humanities. Today, SLU has expanded to six faculties: Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, Computing and Information Technology, Education, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Social and Management Sciences. 

##Current Vice Chancellor
As of 2025, Professor Lawan Sani Taura served as the Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University (SLU) in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, Nigeria, from 2019 to 2023. Born on June 10, 1960, in Taura town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, he has had a distinguished career in academia, particularly in the field of Physics.

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.): Physics, Bayero University, Kano, 1990.

##Academic and Professional Career
Professor Taura's academic journey began in 1991 at Bayero University, Kano, where he contributed significantly to teaching and research in Physics. His expertise lies in Condensed Matter Physics, and he has been involved in various research projects and publications in this domain. In 2019, he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, where he served until 2023. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing the university's academic standards and infrastructure.

##Library Services
The University Library, under the leadership of Dr. Abdulkadir Idris Ahmed, serves as a central hub for research and learning for both staff and students. The library's mission is to develop and implement strategies for effective provision of, and access to, professional library and information services, supporting the core activities of teaching, learning, research, publications, and community services. 

##Infrastructure
SLU's infrastructure is designed to create a conducive environment for academic excellence. The university has invested in modern facilities, including a Senate Building, to support its administrative and academic functions. 

The university's strategic plan emphasizes the development of physical infrastructure and program upgrades, with support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). This includes projects focused on library development, academic staff training, and ICT support, all aimed at enhancing the quality of education and research at SLU.
