The Origin And History of Emevor Kingdom
Hi there! Today we are going to discuss about the origin and history of Emevor Kingdom. This is a town in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, southern Nigeria that shares boundaries with Ebor-Iyede, Agharha, Otor Owhe and Orogun. It is about 13km to the East of Ughelli township stadium. It is an oil producing community in the Niger Delta region. This article will therefore provide the Origin and history of Emevor Kingdom, education levels, the monarchy system practiced in Emevor as well as their religious beliefs.

Education Level/Activities of Emevor Kingdom

There are two public secondary schools in the town which are; James Welch Grammar School Emevor and Emevor Mixed Secondary School. There are two public primary schools which are Emehwa Primary school and Odion Primary School. Private schools in the community are not left out as well. Emevor has two markets locally known as “Ekiedhe” and “Ekiewo”.

The Monarchy System Of Emevor Kingdom

The traditional ruler of Emevor is known as Odion. There are however other community leaders such as president general, chairman, etc. It is historically known to be a peaceful place. The people speak a distinct Isoko language.

Religious Beliefs Of Emevor People

Although the predominant religion in Emevor is Christianity, many natives still practice African traditional religion, which has been practiced for thousands of years before the arrival of the Europeans to Africa. This is evident in the several ancestral shrines that can still be seen in Emevor. A critical appraisal of the belief system of the average Emevor indigene will reveal a combination of both Christian and pagan learnings.

Occupation of Emevor People

The major occupational activities of Emevor people are large-scale food and cash crop farming. Some of the major staple and cash food crops produce in large scales in Emevor are cassava, varieties of yams, palm oils, mangoes, oranges, plantains, bananas, groundnut, etc. Emevor is fast developing with increasing commercial activities, exporting locally produced cash crops to nearby larger cities such as Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, Benin City, Asaba, Port Harcourt, and as far as Lagos and Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
