ANALYSIS OF PIG MARKETING IN ISOKO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION

The study analyzed pork marketing in Isoko North Local Government Area opf Delta State in the year 2021. Data were obtained from 60 marketers in six (6) of the ten (10) clans in the local government area through a well structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the gross margin analysis, and descriptive statistics like percentages. Findings showed that the average total margin(N31,676) received by a marketing is per animal slaughtered. It further observed that the profitability of pig was influenced by the socio-economic characteristics of the marketers and that pork retailing was profitable. It was recommended that government and other financial institution should assist pig marketers with finance to aid their retailing business. Government should also provide useful infrastructure for pork marketing like markets, sophisticated storage facilities and good road networks to aid mobility for the marketers.
