COMPARATIVE PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF WATER LEAF (TALINUM triangulare) AND PUMPKIN LEAF (Tellfaira Occidentalis)
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Samples of water and pumpkin leaves were purchased in ozoro main market and taken to the laboratory for phytochemical analysis using standard method. The result obtained shows qualitatively that saponins is present in water leaf but moderately present in pumpkin leaf, flavanoids is moderately present in water leaf but abundantly present in pumpkin leaf, alkaloids is present in water leaf but moderately present in pumpkin leaf, tannins is present in water leaf but absent in pumpkin leaf, steroids is present in water leaf but moderately present in pumpkin leaf and Glycosides is moderately present in water leaf and abundantly present in pumpkin leaf .However, the results revealed that the two plants ' leaves contains saponins, tannins, flavanoids steroids, alkaloids and glycosides which help to inhibits bacterial growth and it is recommended that water and pumpkin leaves should be added to our daily diet due to it’s high medicinal and nutritional values.
