EVALUATION OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICE ON CASSAVA PRODUCTION IN ISOKO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, DELTA STATE

ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION


The study determined the evaluation of agricultural extension service on cassava production in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. Data collected from 50 cassava farmers randomly selected from the study area were analysed by frequency counts, percentages, mean scores and chi-square. Result from the study show that majority of the cassava farmers were female, married with family size of 6-10 members, they are mainly small scale farmers and are literate. Their source of farmland is mainly through inheritance 60% and fellow farmers supplied most of their information need while fellow farmers supply cassava planting materials, farm capital is obtained mainly from personal saving 66%, fellow farmers were mainly source of information were followed by extension agents. This will boost cassava production in the area. It is therefore suggested that farmers should patronize the bank. The study recommended among other that extension service should be improved to enhance the performance of farmers.
