GPRS –BASED TELEMONITORING SYSTEM FOR EMERGENCY PATIENT TRANSPORTATION (A CASE STUDY OF DELTA STATE TEACHING HOSPITAL, OGHARA)
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Tele-monitoring during the golden hour of patient transportation helps to improve medical care. Presently there are different physiological data acquisition and transmission systems using cellular network. The aim of this research work is to develop a GPRS-based patient tele-monitoring system that could be deployed to healthcare facilities for use in providing basic health services to the patients especially during emergency situations irrespective of their locations. This system could be used by doctors to monitor patients’ health status from remote locations. In this case, mobile phones or personal digital assistants (PDAs) with wireless networking capabilities are used as gateways that process, store and transfer patients’ health parameters to clinicians at remote locations for further analysis and diagnosis. The timely manner of conveying the real time monitored parameters to the doctor is of high priority concern in this case. The system was developed using Microsoft visual studio 2010, the language of implementation is VB.net and database system used is Microsoft SQL server 2008.
