The aim of this study was to assess the levels of some physiochemical and microbial water quality parameters in four wells in Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The parameters analyze for include PH, temperature, total dissolved solids, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chloride, phosphate, sulphate, nitrite, nitrate, ammonium, turbidity, total suspended solid, potassium, zinc, iron mercury and total coliform count. The result obtained showed a PH (5.11-5.37) comparable to the WHO recommended range of 6.5-8.5 and all the samples PH value are below the WHO standard, therefore the water is slightly acidic. Thus the acidity of this water suggest that the water is susceptible to some degree of high salt solution possibly present in the rock matrix on which the water percolate. Acidity does not have side effect on human health since it is not a concentrated acid. It can be corrected by calculated quantity of lime. High level of iron imposed turbidity and colour which may make the water objectionable for consumers which can be removed by coagulation by the use of alum. Coliform count values for the four samples from various locations in Ozoro are above the WHO limits of 0.00MPN/100ml indicating pollution in the well. Therefore boiling the water is advised until disinfection and retesting can confirm that contamination has been eliminated and if you have experienced bacteria problems in the past, it is recommended that you test well more frequently.
