ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGI DISEASES OF CASSAVA AND IT’S TREATMENT USING BITTER LEAF(Vernonia amygdalina) AND GINGER (Zingiber officinale)
ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a perennial edible starch root, cassava physiological deterioration (PPD) once the tubers are separated from the main plants, micro organisms are the causative agents in many infections disease in cassava plants. Isolation and identification of the pathogenic fungi in this work showed the presence of seven fungi, namely Colletotrichum sp,Fusarium sp., Pestalotia sp., Geotrichum sp., Sphaeros tilbe repens, Trichoderma Viride and Botryodiplodia theobromae. Variability of types of infection with respect to locality or origin of cassava samples revealed an influence of ecological conditions on relative abundance of the pathogenic fungi ethanoic extracts of Ginger and bitter leaves reduced the growth of excellently bodies responsible for collecting research work all over the country and even beyond should double their efforts to see that all active ingredients in plant extracts are researched upon intensively with a view of purifying and concentrating them as they helped to reduce the mycellial growth of the pathogens at 100% concentrations.
