360 DEGREE VIDEOS, THE MODERN VIDEO FORMAT FOR VIDEO PRODUCTION (ITS IMPORTANCE AND IMPACT ON MODERN VIDEO PRODUCTION)

Modern day video production has gone beyond the production of regular/conventional videos and moving towards virtual reality (VR for short) which is a realistic and immersive simulation of a three dimensional 360 degree environment, created using interactive software and hardware controlled by movement of the body. It is like travelling into a whole new world via your viewing device. An effective way of portraying this virtual reality is through 360 degree video format which is a video that captures view in every angle direction at the same time using an omnidirectional camera or a special grid of cameras. This video can be viewed using special VR hardware such as VR headsets and Google cardboard which gives the viewer that immersive feel of being in the location where the video is being shot. This seminar paper gives an insight first into the technicalities involved in the capturing, editing and rendering of this 360 degree videos to the viewer and then the impact/relevance of this video format in modern video production and our everyday life.
