How To Code Directly On The Python Interpreter

Isaiah Ozadhe Saturday, August 29, 2020 Python

Hi. Welcome to Emmason247. Today i want to introduce you to the python interpreter and how to write code directly on it. Table of contents Introduction What is the python interpreter? How do i install the interpreter? How do i write code with the interpreter?

Introduction.

If you are following our python series, you'll realize that we have been writing code using visual studio code - a third party editor which is more fun anyway. if you have not yet started following our python tutorial, CLICK HERE You may have paused to ask yourself : whatever happened to the python interpreter that we intalled? Well let me answer that. Nothing, it is where it is.

What is The Python Interpreter?.

In very simple terms, the python interpreter is the middleman between you and the target machine or your computer processors. All that english-like python code you write, you computer does not understand it at all. the interpreter tells the computer what your code means in the it's native language.

How do i install the Interpreter?.

If you are following the tutorial, you should have it installed by now but if not, CLICK HERE for a simple guide on how to have it installed.

Writing code directly on the interpreter.

Lets try to play around the interpreter a bit. it's not really that we need it for anything productive anyway but it is still good to know that you have it around. Now look for the program in your system. You can type 'python' to search for it or you should navigate to all programs and look for the python version you installed. Click on it and you'll see something like this:
console
That is the enviroment of the python interpreter. if you look very carfully, you'll find the version of python installed. Now lets play with it. Enter the codes below one after the other and observe the output:
2+3+6
4-7/7
Username = "Isaiah"
print(Username)
5*5
100/5
Age = 50
print(Age)
Did you observe the behavior?, pretty much all the basics can be done here. Below is my enviroment after all this playing around:

I remain Isaiah Ozadhe and i write regularly on tech and programming in very simple terms here on Emmason247. Do have a wonderful day.
